This policy explains what information Scottish Seachild Reads collects when you visit this site, and how it’s used.
Comments
When you leave a comment on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible publicly alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the site (e.g. via a comment or contact form), avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as visitors can download and extract that data.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in a cookie for your convenience next time. These last one year.
If you have an account and log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, screen option cookies last a year. Choosing “Remember Me” extends your login to two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.
Embedded content and external services
Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. images, videos, or links to other sites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you’d visited the other website directly, and that site may collect data about you, use its own cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content.
This site loads web fonts from Google Fonts to display properly. Loading these fonts means your browser makes a request to Google’s servers, which may process your IP address as part of that request. Google’s privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Affiliate links
Some posts may in future contain affiliate links (for example, to Amazon or other retailers). If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This doesn’t affect the honesty of any review or recommendation.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email. We don’t sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
How long we retain your data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so follow-up comments from the same person can be recognised automatically rather than held for moderation each time.
If you register an account, the personal information in your profile is stored, and you can see, edit, or delete it at any time (except your username).
Your rights over your data
If you have an account, or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to erase it. This doesn’t include data we’re legally required to keep for administrative or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Comments are moderated manually rather than through an automated spam-checking service.
Your rights under UK GDPR
As this is a UK-based site, your data is handled in line with UK GDPR. Alongside the rights listed above, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled.
